About the Event
The queen of queens, Evelyn Bastos is Rio Carnaval royalty. Rainha da Bateria (Queen of the Drums) of Rio’s most famous Samba school, Mangueira, Evelyn Bastos is a powerhouse global Samba icon.
Raised in the Mangueira community and dancing since the age of 4, Evelyn Bastos has been Rainha da bateria of Mangueira ever since she was crowned the queen of Rio Carnaval in 2013.
A highly exalted public figure in the world of Carnaval, Evelyn Bastos holds the important position of cultural director of Liesa (the official Rio Carnaval organisation). She is also the president of Mangueira do Amanha (the children’s section of Mangueira).
Evelyn is famous worldwide for her unrivalled power and commanding presence as a Samba queen. Her impeccable Samba technique and “mais quadril” (power hips), Her teaching method is second to none.

SAMBA FUNDAMENTALS
This workshop will focus on the essential basics of Samba no pé from the queen of the Samba basic. The workshop will deconstruct the Samba basic technique in detail, from feet, hips and arms to timing and rhythm. Suitable for all levels including beginners and improvers.
