Siobhan Ion
Director & Samba Instructor

Siobhan’s love for dance began at age six, with ballet training in her local community hall in country NSW, but it was a samba song in a Zumba class that truly set her path in motion. In 2016, after moving to Melbourne, she dived headfirst into samba, igniting a passion that would take her around the world.
A defining moment in Siobhan’s journey came in 2018 when she spent a month in Brazil, fully immersing herself in Carnival and the vibrant dance scene. Captivated by the energy, she promised herself she’d return one day to perform. This experience inspired her to reach out to Sashya at Escola de Samba Sydney to hone her skills. When the pandemic hit, Siobhan embraced her time in Melbourne’s lockdown as a blessing, dedicating countless hours to training as an Escola de Samba Sydney online member.
After refining her technique, Siobhan returned to Brazil in 2021 to parade, experiencing firsthand the profound connection Brazilians have with their culture and dance. This inspired her next goal: to teach and share that same love for movement with others.
Siobhan is passionate about building a vibrant community through Escola de Samba Melbourne, bringing people together to form lasting connections through samba. Performing across Melbourne’s entertainment scene, she shares her love for samba with diverse audiences. In addition to her work with Escola de Samba, she also serves as the CEO of 1R Australia, teaches group fitness and Reformer Pilates, and empowers people to embrace movement in all its forms.
